IEEE Denver EMC – Effects of Wind Turbine Grounding System Interconnection on Electromagnetic Transients Caused by Lightning
IEEE Denver EMC – Effects of Wind Turbine Grounding System Interconnection on Electromagnetic Transients Caused by Lightning
The latest edition of the norm IEC-61400-24 recommends that the wind turbine’s grounding system should be interconnected to the other wind turbine’s grounding system erected in the wind park; this is in order to reduce abnormal earth potential distribution and mitigate dangerous overvoltage. A comparison between a stand-alone wind turbine (without grounding system interconnection) and a set of interconnected wind turbines (with grounding system interconnection) is presented and analyzed during this lecture. Overvoltage and overcurrent in the form of surges may be the result of electromagnetic traveling waves caused by lightning; these effects may impose additional requirements for the reliable operation of a low voltage and medium voltage grid against surges caused by lightning strikes. IEEE Denver PES/IAS Chapter March 2024 Meeting
IEEE Denver PES/IAS Chapter March 2024 Meeting
Schedule 6:00 – Check-in, Chapter Business and Networking 6:30 – Dinner Served 7:00 – Presentation 8:00 – Adjourn Summary: Title: Sensitivity analysis of harmonic levels at POI using mixed GSU transformer phase shift, a case study. Description: Join the IEEE PES/IAS Denver chapter during our March technical meeting. Our guest speaker this month is Gerardo Valdés Bustamante from Electric Power Engineers. The integration of renewable energy sources into power systems has led to increased concerns regarding the impact of harmonics on the stability and reliability of the grid. This study investigates the sensitivity of harmonic levels at the Point of Interconnection (POI) in a power system, focusing on the application of mixed Generator Step-Up (GSU) transformer phase shift configurations. The objective is to analyze how varying the vector group in the GSU transformers affects harmonic distortion at the POI. The case study was based on a realistic power system model with renewable energy sources and mixed GSU transformers. A comprehensive sensitivity analysis was conducted by changing the vector group of the GSU transformers and monitoring the resulting harmonic levels at the POI. The study identified the optimal vector group configurations that minimize harmonic distortion while ensuring efficient power transfer. Aerospace Ski Club at Arapahoe Basin
Aerospace Ski Club at Arapahoe Basin
AESS-SPS and the Aerospace Ski Club are teaming up to host a ski tailgate at Arapahoe Basin! The ski club is an employee-led community where we build inclusivity and develop camaraderie around snow sports. Come join fellow aerospace professionals and enthusiasts for a fun day on the slopes. AESS-SPS joint chapter will provide food! A-Basin is providing discounted day passes ($112 down from $159) for event attendees that need one. There will be free snowboard demos available (must bring your own bindings and boots). Also, when you register for the event, you will receive a Discord link where the club coordinates carpooling for those looking to share a ride! 28194 Us Hwy 6, Dillon, Colorado, United States, 80435
