Black Hills – April Technical Session: Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF)

The focus of the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) at the former Homestake Mine in Lead/SD is being the host site for a multitude of world class experiments in nuclear and particle physics. These include the dark matter search experiments LUX and LZ, the underground particle accelerator CASPAR which studies nuclear processes occurring in the sun’s core, and the neutrino experiments Majorana Demonstrator and DUNE, which is poised to become the largest experiment on US soil.
