IEEE Stepping Stone Award Presentation

This IEEE Stepping Stone Award commemorates SWRI’s role in exploration of the planet Pluto.  A flyby of the planet, Pluto, was proposed by SwRI. The plan, proposed by SWRI, was carried out by NASA with a goal to undertake a close-up study of Pluto and its moons and other icy worlds in the distant Kuiper Belt by NASA using the New Horizons spacecraft. New Horizon’s was launched from Cape Canaveral Florida on January 19, 2006. The flyby of Pluto occurred on July 14, 2015, about 9 1/2 years later. SwRI is located in the Exeter building on the SW corner of 11th & Walnut in downtown Boulder. The front entrance is on the east side. When you arrive, take the elevator to the 4th floor.  Please follow signs from the lobby to the 4th Floor Conference Room.

Parking is available in public parking lots, to the east in an above ground garage at 11th & Walnut, and to the west below ground at 10th & Walnut. (Walnut is a one-way street, running west to east.) Look for the large signs with a green “P”.  For more information on parking close to the location, please see this website.   There are also street parking meters surrounding the building, and charge $1.25/hr, 3 hours max (the pay stations accept credit cards) from 9 a.m.-7p.m.
